We offer computer-networking-on Linux course(s) with the topics illustrated in figure networking1 below and the list thereafter. The course is modular. It is designed for
  1. network administrators,
  2. designer-engineers of network appliances who need to know how UNIX/Linux networking is organised,
  3. those who want to learn networking in Linux accompanied by an industry-recognised certification examination.

Type1 - Linux-networking courses

The course(e) consists of the following parts:

Computer networking fundamentals
Network interface configuration:
  1. Using ifconfig,
  2. configuring and using ppp for dialup and adsl broadband Internet use,
  3. configuring and using dhcp servers and clients,
  4. configuring and using serial line Internet protocol (slip).
Configuring and using remote login services:
  1. Configuring and using openSSH,
  2. configuring and using CVS.
LAN file and print services:
Introduction to names resolution services
Configuring machines for Internet-wide services:
Electronic mail services
  1. Installation and configuration of popular MTAs (mail transport agents) Sendmail, Postfix and Exim,
  2. configuration of Mailman; the mailing-list manager,
  3. Installation and configuring courier postfix/imap/postgresql/apache for ( for web-mail).
Routers and firewalls:
Miscellaneous:
  1. Ethernet bonding,
  2. network monitoring,
  3. introduction to Kerberos,
  4. introduction to openLADP.

Course duration, dates, costs and certification:

Certification: The course is modular and components can be selected to follow certification for The course is now in its 4th year and has undergone numerous revisions and feedback from past students.

Course duration: The full course is normally over 14 sessions (3 and half days). Shorter courses usually for the SAIR LCE (or equivalent) courses are usually up to 6 sessions (one-and-a-half days or two days). Excellent computer-lab facilities are provided, but students can also bring their portable/laptop computers to perform the lab exercises if they so wish. This is a priori their machines and peripherals are Linux-compatible. If you are interested in this aspect, please contact us for guidance.
